Gavin graduated his 2A level class and now moves to 2B. His teacher sent him this email:
Dear Gavin,
CONGRATULATIONS on passing level 2A! You have worked hard and done a great job. You have mastered all 16 skills required to pass this level and learned valuable safety skills! Most importantly, you are swimming 10 feet of front crawl using your arms and legs and you are kicking on your back for 10 feet. You should be so proud of yourself! I have attached the picture of you with your ribbon so that you can have a reminder of how setting a goal and working hard pays off.
Good job – we are proud of you too!
P.S. We can’t wait to see you in level 2B where the goal will be to swim 25 feet of front and back crawl.
Liam also received a certificate of achievement with a list of his accomplishments. He achieved 11 out of 16 of the skills required to pass his level 1 class which we are so proud of. This is the child that for 5 weeks, he would whimper and cry all the way to swim lessons telling me, "it's not my turn, Mama. I'm not ready." On the 5th week, he did not cry coming into the aquatic center and once the staff realized he was inside (they didn't realize it since usually they HEAR him come in), they made him feel extra special and showered him with attention, praises and stickers. On that 5th week, he told me he wanted to show Ms. Tara (his teacher) his "happy face"....which he did all the while he had tears welled up in his eyes. He really tries to please all of us and put on his happy face but he still gets very anxious before the lessons yet he is fine once it starts and does not cry during the lessons. After every lesson he runs to me and says "I did it" and is as happy as his normal self.
Here he is looking over his certificate and the checklist where they marked all of his skills. He looked at it and told me, "this says I can put my eyes in the water"....and indeed that is one of the skills. :)
We tried really hard to get him to hold up his certificate but it didn't happen.
