Stevie has been with us for almost exactly seven years. In fact, he was our first major purchase after our wedding. He was state of the art in 2004, and the technology is still similar to that seen in many of today's hottest TVs.
Why, you may wonder, is the TV named Stevie (aside from the fact that it rhymes nicely)? Like so many things in our household, the answer lies in FRIENDS. On FRIENDS, Joey has a tendency to name all of his favorite things. We learn this in one particular episode when Joey's reclining chair (Rosita) breaks - and then is mysteriously "healed" (Chandler replaces it with his, identical chair). When Rachel asks Joey the story behind the name Rosita, he also explains that his TV is named Stevie. And, in typical Steph and Nick style, we stole the idea...
Stevie was superseded today by his younger cousin Sammie. Based on our great experience with Stevie (a Samsung), we felt a sort of moral obligation to stick with the same company. And, mom and dad, you'll be happy to hear that we actually downsized a bit: Stevie = 50"; Sammie = 46".

AH! We have a Samsung DLP that is only 6 years old and we just put it on craigslist. Did yours turn off by itself??
What happened yesterday was that it would turn on and this screeching sound would start, then it would turn off. We thought it was overheating so we'd left it off for a while but it would continue regardless of how long we waited.
About a year ago, it gave us some type of error on the screen for a part that doesn't exist. Then it would take forever for the image to appear after we'd turn it on but we could deal with that. We knew it was coming, but we were still sad it happened.
